The Doctor Who Official Celebration 2013

For three days in November 2013, SME London and BBC Worldwide presented the Official 50th Celebration for Doctor Who. Coinciding with the programme achieving its milestone 50th anniversary, the Celebration became the global focus of the worldwide birthday party. Tickets for the event were in high demand and with guests including Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, Tom Baker, Peter Davison plus over one hundred other contributors from the whole of Doctor Who’s history. it’s no surprise that the initial allocation of 18,000 tickets sold in less than 24 hours. A further 6000 tickets were sold in a ballot to give even more fans a chance to be part of this once in a lifetime event. They all sold out too.

The Celebration was designed to be just that, a family-friendly celebration of 50 years of Doctor Who. As they entered the event through an iconic scene, a recreation of the very first scene of the very first episode in fact, fans knew they were in for a fantastic day. And it didn’t disappoint. Fan reactions on social media were overwhelmingly positive and media coverage, including a live outside broadcast by BBC Radio 2’s Graham Norton, was nothing but glowing. We were proud to have created a memorable, high-quality event that fans who attended will never forget.
